The electrical service is the point of attachment to the utility supplied electrical power through the electrical meter to the house electrical distribution panel better known as the fuse box or, in today's terms, the breaker panel. A service change or upgrade is about as common as replacing a roof, driveway or heating unit in the house. The goods news is that the cost is considerably less. There are two common types of installations, those being the overhead (cables strung from the pole to the house in free air) or the underground (cables in conduit buried in the ground). A service change is required for one of two reasons -- either the old is worn and torn or you have outgrown the size of the panel. CP Electrical has an extensive amount of experience with both types of service changes. We always recommend the maximum size service since 70% of the cost is in the labor and not the material. This labor cost does not change whether it is a 100 amp service or a 200 amp service. A service change generally takes 2 men 8 hours to complete with power being off in the house for the full 8 hours. Typically, we install either G.E. or Cutler Hammer equipment unless the request is for the very best and then, for slightly more, we will install Square D commercial grade equipment. If you are need of a service change or, as we call it, an upgrade, please contact_us@cpelectrical.com or phone us at 908-604-9261 for free estimates and consultation.
